Simon's Town is a village and a naval base near Cape Town, and is located on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula. Simon's Town is now in effect a suburb of greater Cape Town, and has become a popular tourist attraction.

In addition to a beautiful location and white sandy beaches, there has been a colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach since 1985. Boulders Beach is located a few kilometers to the south of Simon's Town, and is therefore easily accessible.

It is a bit of a mystery why the penguins suddenly decided to make Boulders Beach their home, but it certainly is popular with the tourists. The penguins are often eaten by seals, which our guide told us she had seen happen at Boulders Beach. It is apparently an interesting spectacle.
